No. 2024/E(Trg)/43/4

New Delhi, Dated: As signed

The General Managers,
All Indian Railways.

Sub: Revision in Training Period of Technician Category.

Ref: Board’s letter No. 2024 E(Trg)/43/4 dated 09.10.2024/RBE 92/2024.

Instructions have been issued vide Board’s letter under reference effecting revised period of training for direct recruits in Technician categories. As per these instructions, the compassionate Ground Appointees (CGA), where the recruits do not possess the minimum qualification of Act Apprenticeship or ITI in relevant trade, training period for various sub-groups has been prescribed as follows:

  1. Degree/Diploma holders in field of relevant trade and similar trades on par with DR advertisement norms – 06 months;
  2. Engineering Degree/Diploma holders in a field other than that of the relevant trade – 12 months;
  3. Matriculation plus ITI qualification in a trade which is one of the engineering trades falling in the relevant trades for a post of Technician Grade-III as per extant RRB notifications but not the relevant trade for the post – 12 months &
  4. Matriculation or any other higher qualification and other non-relevant ITI – 2 years.

2. Some of railways have come up with situations where CGA recruits (having non-relevant ITI trade), appointed after 09.10.2024 and subjected to 2 years training, will join working post early and become senior to the CGA recruits (having non-relevant ITI trade) appointed before 09.10.2024 and subjected to 3 years training as per RBE 166/2010.

The matter has been considered in Board’s office and it has been decided that such CGA recruits (having non-relevant ITI trade), appointed before 09.10.2024 and subjected to 3 years training as per RBE 166/2010 shall be categorized as per above sub-Groups and their training period be shortened, subject to the minimum prescribed period without affecting the course content. Further, the earlier batch will be allowed to join first, followed by the subsequent batches after successfully completing their training as per the existing procedures and practices providing them the benefit of seniority and pay fixation.

4. This issues with approval of the competent authority.
